Media Opportunities Workshop
The Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will draw over 10,000 journalists to British Columbia (B.C.) from across the country and around the world. For many of our businesses, this represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to reach new clients and customers nationally and internationally.
The BC 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Secretariat (BC Secretariat) is working now to prepare businesses in every corner of the province to capitalize on this international media exposure. Media workshops will be held around B.C. to help communities and businesses tell their stories to the world.
These two and a half hour media workshops are desgined to help participants develop a media strategy by defining and packaging their personal success stories, targeting appropriate media, and finding a personal comfort level for connecting with journalist.
Former journalists and public relations professionals with experience in radio, television, print and the Web lead the workshops and share insider tips on how to make the most of the 2010 Winter Games. They provide pratical examples to help companies stand out from the pack.
Reviews from the first workshop are positive
"It's one of the best workshops I've been to and I have been to a lot of workshops," said David Hull, Executive Director of the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce. "There were a lot of tangible takeaways and good handouts. They used real-life examples and offered a lot of good tips on working with the media, like ensuring you follow up after sending a press release and giving media after-hours contact information."
"I wanted to find out what businesses were looking for and how to help them design their own promotional video," said John Romein, owner of Techno Monkey Media, a video production company. "We're looking at using the Games to leverage ourselves into a bigger company. It was definitely interesting."
